Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser on Home Affairs, says the government is taking comprehensive measures to ensure a peaceful, participatory, and credible national election.
Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser on Home Affairs, stated that the government is fully prepared to ensure a peaceful, participatory, and acceptable environment in the upcoming national election. His remarks came after a meeting of the law and order advisory committee at the Secretariat on Monday, December 8.
The Adviser said that election preparations are progressing satisfactorily. Training programs for various forces are already underway and are expected to be completed by mid-January. He added that technical arrangements are being enhanced to make voting a festive experience—members of law enforcement will use body cameras and uninterrupted power supply will be ensured at every polling station.
He noted, “It is unrealistic to expect crime to completely stop before the election. It will not magically disappear. However, all forces will remain alert to control criminal activities.”
Regarding the stance of the Jatiya Party, he said that all political parties are free to be active in the field, while some may choose to engage in politics from their offices. He also mentioned that the party has some internal office-related issues, which they will resolve themselves.
On the killing of a veteran couple in Rangpur, the Home Affairs Adviser described the incident as extremely tragic and stated that law enforcement agencies have been given strict instructions to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
