Bangladesh has formally sent a letter to the Indian government requesting the return of fugitive convicts Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, both sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. The matter was confirmed by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.

Speaking to reporters at his office on Sunday (23 November), he said that an official request was dispatched to New Delhi last Friday (21 November) to bring the two convicts back to the country.

On 17 November, the International Crimes Tribunal found Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun responsible for crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. The verdict sentenced Sheikh Hasina and Kamal to death, while Mamun received five years in prison as he served as a state witness.
