The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has permanently expelled two of its affiliated leaders over their alleged involvement in the brutal killing of businessman Mohammad Sohag near Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka. The party also denounced attempts to blame BNP for the incident, calling it part of "dirty political tactics."
In a statement issued on Friday night (July 11), BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said, “We have taken strict measures regarding the Mitford incident. Yet, efforts are being made to hold BNP responsible—this is an example of using an isolated incident for dirty political games. BNP and its associated bodies have never, and will never, shelter criminals. Our stance is of ‘zero tolerance’ in this regard.”
He urged the government to ensure legal action against those involved in the killing.
Meanwhile, in a joint statement, Jubo Dal (BNP’s youth wing) President Abdul Monayem Munna and General Secretary Nurul Islam Noyon confirmed the permanent expulsion of two accused: Rajab Ali Pintu, former Assistant Secretary for Climate Affairs of the Jubo Dal Central Executive Committee, and Sabah Karim Laki, Joint Convener of Dhaka South Jubo Dal.
The statement further noted that the Jubo Dal has called on law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action and pledged full cooperation. It also made clear that the party would not bear responsibility for any actions of the expelled leaders.
Jubo Dal has instructed all its members across the country to refrain from any organizational contact with the expelled individuals
