Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has announced the launch of a “National Green Mission” aimed at ensuring environmental protection and sustainable development. In a Facebook post on Sunday (October 5), he shared details of the initiative.
“We will launch a National Green Mission,” Tarique Rahman stated, “plant 250 million trees, restore rivers, turn waste into wealth, modernize agriculture, invest in renewable energy, and expand the blue economy to create opportunities for our youth.”
He further added, “We will end Dhaka-centric growth and build modern, well-planned cities so that every region can prosper and every citizen can benefit.”
Highlighting housing as a fundamental human right, Tarique Rahman said, “Everyone deserves a safe, dignified, and secure home. Our villages, towns, rivers, and forests are all part of the same habitat, and together they shape our shared future. A broken environment cannot sustain a strong home, and without sustainable development, we cannot build a prosperous nation.”
On the occasion of World Habitat Day, he reaffirmed BNP’s 31-point plan as a roadmap to address the nation’s housing and environmental challenges. He particularly emphasized two commitments—climate change and environmental protection (Point 29) and planned, balanced urbanization and decentralization (Point 31).
Tarique Rahman pledged that a BNP-led government would protect both people’s homes and their future. He also called on citizens to join hands in building a greener, more balanced, and sustainable Bangladesh.
